It takes a lot of work to create a textbook, it takes even more to create a good one. When I went back to college to finish my industrial design degree I really didn't have any intentions of utilizing my graphic design skills for employment. I prefer making tactile things, however, I am grateful that in November of 2012 I jumped at the chance to work with two brilliant mechanical engineering professors. It was my role to navigate through their different approaches and help them find consensus to illustrate product development concepts. The subject matter was of interest to me and I loved researching other product development and design books.

Figuring Out What To Do With Your Life
One of the benefits of illustrating a textbook is getting to spend a lot of time with the material. I can do a lot of things.
For some reason I thought it would be really cool to thin out Spackle and coat the inside of a balloon. I can't even remember why I did this, but the results of the exploding balloon were spectacular.
When Experiments Go Wrong
My significant other is the kind of person who goes to great lengths to prevent the spine of a book from cracking when it is being read. I'm a bit experimental. We make sure that each of us has our own space because of our conflicting "philosophies." Sometimes my experiments are not always thought out. I'm pretty sure the particles in the thinned down spackle scratched the inside of the balloon and when it popped, the contents went all over. This was a couple of years ago, but I am still finding dried out remnants of my failed experiment on my stuff even now. This is the reason I cover the floor of my room with a tarp and keep my electronics separate. It sure was fun though.
My dog likes to prototype... or just lay on my stuff when I do.

As a result of showing at Clerkenwell Design Week 2014 in London my work was featured along with other members of the Wasatch Design Collective in Icon Magazine. A pretty exciting thing for me.
Learning About Dovetails
This is where I made a friend for life. Thanks Miya.
That's my partner in crime Miya across the bench observing judiciously. She made the whole semester a lot of fun.
This is Marcus demonstrating how to cut a dovetail traditionally. He was a great TA.
